Fleet FM Birthday party....The Aftermath!

Wow this is going to be an interesting entry.......it will be filled with disappointment and despair. In fact the first half of the entry is of a happy re-count of good times at said party before the party became an utter cluster-fuck of tantrums and sunset tan-ish drama.



Now I've been on Fleet for about a year now, and I love where I am with Fleet FM and I can't imagine being anywhere else. Stations like Fleet FM need to exist because if it dies out.......so does the wonder of discovering new tunes from trustworthy DJs who don't bow down to what the mainstream considers normal........because normal is fucked! However after the fiasco of our birthday party....I just feel like utter shit and something has to be said. I will keep the foul language to a minimal and use it where its appropriate. There will be names, but not to the point that I will slander an individual or groups that are involved!



However lets start off with the good points of the party, because these people need to be addressed for putting on such a great performance.


Misfits of Science.........Let me say that their sound has changed dramatically over the years which is a welcome change to what we've been accustomed to from them the last time, which I believe was from their debut album.

There are more synth driven sounds coupled with their usual nonsensical rap style. In fact this is what I want from a rap group in Auckland, nonsensical lyrics with don't take themselves too seriously much like their American counterparts or faux American counterparts based in South Auckland (Dawn Raid I'm looking at your general direction).


Now I'm not generally a big fan of Aotearoa hip hop (because I am from South Auckland which is still riddled by crap R n'b and hip hop thanks to Flava and Mai FM), but maybe I would consider putting it back into my playlist if it didn't take itself way too seriously! I mean you can only imitate American culture for so long that people will eventually realize that you have zero originality.......like the Dawn Raid crew! Now lets talk about legends who uses Hip Hop in a uplifting way....Dam Native!



It was good to see Dam Native again complete with a 5 piece band and a drummer who looks like SJD....hmmmmmmm! I have nothing but respect for Dam Native and I love his many of his hits from the past such as "Behold My Kool Style", "Battle Styles" and "The Horrified One " all which were performed on the night.


However due to them performing sound checks which went on for hours, they did cause a delay with the other Djs who were set to play later on....but overall it was awesome to see them again!


Mr. Hayday was playing downstairs at Rising Sun and what can I say....it was interesting. His brand of electronica was your ragtag of blips, blobs, squelches, that filled the room with a sense of mechanical feeling and soul. I did hear trace elements of breakcore, which is not a well known format here in New Zealand because of its constance overshadowing of drum n bass (long story), but hey at least he gave it a try! Overall I love what I was hearing on the night frin Mr. Hayday.......and I will buy his ep! Massive!



Now to point out what really happened to the Fleet FM Birthday in terms of the Djs and the situation that erupted on stage. I was mad about how the DJ schedule was messed up at 420 which I lost my composure and became rather Irate about how the situation was handled. First of all you had 2 venues and any genius would've figured that you should put bands in one venue and put Djs in another venue, because everyone knows that soundchecks from bands take long, as apposed to DJs who can just rock on up there with ease!


In fact some DJs that were on the bill didn't get a chance to play such as my good friend Adrian who reported that the DJ gear at Rising Sun was already packed down. And speaking of Rising Sun I felt when I went into the Rising Sun, it lack a bit of continuity with the music that was involved. Lets say that there was a punk group that was performing, you enjoyed it, you loved it, you want something to tie you over until the next band....but then some inconsiderate DJ all of a sudden plays Dance music.....WTF! In fact this happened several times at Rising sun, band finished, ass wipe Dj plays dance music...........THIS IS WHY YOU NEEDED ADRIAN OR ANDREW TIDBALL!......and believe me there were alot of experiment bands on the night along with punk bands too!


Now back to the 420 situation...........Don't ever bring the North Shore Pony Club back into another Fleet FM party....Ever! I mean why the fuck should you, they've got gigs now around Auckland and they are not part of Fleet FM no more, no they're not! They are now part of 95BFM! They're highly overrated and greedy with their sets going over the alloted time they were given!


420 should've been for the Fleet FM Djs who need the boost and exposure.......like me. Sorry if this statement is rather self serving of me, but I feel the need to break out and get somewhere.....otherwise all the time and effort I put on my show will be just a utter waste.

I'm also sorry to Ben and Chris from Club Casual and Benni aka Dj No Friends for being a complete asshole toward you guys. In fact you don't deserve it!

Also I want to address the whole bar tab issue.........NOT EVERYONE DRINKS ALCOHOL! I personally don't drink because I don't want to, and I shouldn't be penalized by the bar staff for not exchanging the vouchers for a non alcoholic beverage! Get it through your head fuckwits...........I don't drink!!! Oh and the asshole who couldn't allow my friend to come back with me in the Green Room...Fuck you! What did you want me to say, my friend wanted to give me a blowjob!?...SHE'S MY FRIEND COCKSUCKER!


Oh and for the ladies who I don't know personally, or are not my best friends who come to the booth asking for a track request.......I will fuck you up! Go ahead and bring your boyfriend to the booth, I'll fuck him up as well, I will cut a bitch!!!


Overall the party was mis-managed and I don't ever want to gig out to Auckland ever again! All of you can kiss my black pacific Island ass and suck my sweaty pacific Island cock!
