Tiefschwarz is probably the most underrated remixer and producer out there from the German dance movement (in my opinion). He has done some very good and well thought out remixes as well as some original productions that have a momentary feeling when you listen to them and engages you into intelligent fanfare.
In other words listening to any Tiefschwarz productions or remixes won’t make you feel stupid….they’re much thought provoking moments of aural pleasure!
Fabric 29 shows off Tiefschwarz diverse selections of dance tracks for those that are not familiar with a Tiefschwarz set…or for those who don’t have the luxury of jet setting to Germany every fricken weekend.
I should warn you that this edition of the Fabric mix is not exactly an easy one to get into immediately as you either have to familiar with Tiefschawarz’s productions or remixes, and it will take a couple of repeat listens to get into the meat of the mix.
Tiefschwarz ‘Damage (M.A.N.D.Y. Remix)’ is a nice easy track to start with and it features Tracey Thorn which in my opinion you can’t go wrong with Tracey Thorn’s vocals as they are the most timeless of tones.
Touane’s ‘Bassic’ relays the cold perfection of a rather industrial sound of minimal and tech house clashing, gelling and giving you the shivers!
Thomas Schumacher’s ‘Rotor’ is simply tremendous which the embodiment of pure electronic German class music. You can’t go wrong with a Schumacher track as this is the standout track for me being somewhat of a small fan of his works myself.
Night On Earth’s ‘Rondell’ is a nice boogie down track. Some robotic vocal samples echoing in the background and a very rhythmic techno track to say the least.
‘Freefall’ from Sleeper Thief is a descending track that goes up and down on the scale with a ‘dare I say’ vertigo bent. It’s another interesting track that I highly would look out for during the mix.
A Depeche Mode remix from Tiefschwarz made it into the cut with ‘John the Revelator (Tiefschwarz Dub).’ I’m not too familiar with the track myself but it is nice that it’s in there having a jarring scale of synths sounding almost psychedelic. It somehow cuts into a repetitious break half way, so lookout for that.
So in conclusion, it was a hard mix to get into as it deals with a lot cliché minimal and tech house elements, so be in the right frame of mind and give a try. It’s not as bad as I make it out to be, I’ve heard much worst.
And if you’re a big fan of Tiefschwarz, look out for some of his remixes that are out there in the wild, you’ll be glad you did.
