The Housewives :The Interview

The Housewives are a female Swedish duo consisting of La Fleur and Adeline Supreme who will be releasing a EP on your favorite and our favorite label of the world.....Kinetika Records which once again is another perfect acquisition from our friends in NYC.

They sure fit the bill of having both the looks and the skills to rock a Swedish house party into mega submission, in fact they coined a term "Mega House" to describe their sound and have been the talk of the town with their very own clubnight and nationwide radio show in their native Sweden!

We got to talk to The Housewives in this exclusive interview about music, cupcakes and the very tinny Swedish clubland....apparently.

Please introduce yourselves to the Nerdy Frames reader’s if you can please.

We are the Housewives, a dj and production duo originally from Sweden, spending our time in Berlin , Stockholm and wherever the duty calls on us. We teamed up three years ago to start hosting a club night together under the name 'Housewives' with the tagline Mega House, Filthy Beats, and Dirty Dancing!

HAWT!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey thanks for taking time to talk to us……off the record, has anyone told you ladies you’re fricken hot...sorry never mind. Tell us how you ladies get into djing?

No, you're actually the first one... from New Zealand! Music and dance have always been big love affairs of ours, and as we discovered a lot of dirty dance floors around that needed to be filled with love, we figured it would be a perfect thing to spread our Mega House as djs.

Explain to us how the concept of The Housewives came to fruition? Were you ladies long time friends?

We've been djing individually under La Fleur and Adeline Supreme and met along the way in a dj network in Stockholm. We decided to host a club night together and since the love affairs developed into a marriage to house music, we decided to call ourselves the Housewives.

Why the name Housewives? I read that it was derived from the club in Sweden of the same name.

The concept of Housewives started to develop around the club nights, we wanted to add a tea spoon of humor to the club scene and suddenly we're throwing coffee parties, having decoration theme nights such as laundry room, and kitchen night. The last project we did was a charity event called Dance For Wells, where we invited great house and techno artists to help support the supply of water and building of new wells in poor countries.

Our main focus has always been the music but this way we try to put it in a new context and explore new areas.

What is the main arsenal of music that you ladies play during your sets?

We play our own genre that we call Mega House, which is a mix of sensual tech house, groovy house and melodic techno, always something to suit the right mood at the dancefloor, and for you to do the dirty dancing too!

If you to describe the sound of the housewives, what will it be?

see number 5 :) (right.....idiot! Hehehheee, ED)

What bands/groups/albums/or genres of music did you ladies grow up listening to when you were wee knee high kids?

We listened to whatever made us feel like dancing!

Any moments in cheesy music, or are you beyond that ladies?

A bit of cheese is never wrong but for the dance floors we prefer it a bit more well stored.

Seem as how vinyl is on the way out like the dodo bird, what was the last bit of vinyl that you purchased?

Yesterday! We still play vinyl, still love the feel of the physical format which is part of the charm with djing. But we also play cds.

Are there other genres outside of dance music that you also enjoy during your down time?

Yes, we always appreciate different kinds of good music, that is probably why we have a good taste in dance music because we have a wide set of references.

Now you’re from Sweden (that gains you ladies an extra 10 points because we love Sweden) which has given us booth the good (Dada Life, Per QX…etc) and the terrible (Basshunter) in dance music. What are you thoughts about the music scene in Sweden?

Sweden has many good djs and producers, unfortunately not related to the size and numbers of clubs. The club scene is very small, but maybe that's what brings artists to become successful outside Sweden, we have to widen our horizons.

What is it about the Swedish dance scene that always excels in bringing such great dance music? I mean you have the luxury of having the Swedish house mafia and many other successful acts that has been making strides around the world.

The cold weather in Sweden makes us stay indoors 6 months out of the year, and one of the fun things you can enjoy yourself with then is to make music.

Who are your influences (musically or otherwise) that the both of you look up to and how have they influenced you?

We have tried to think wide and open and get the inspiration from each other, and other people who like to think outside the box. We hope to inspire others with what we do.

Okay let’s talk about the atmosphere, the vibe, the club culture of Sweden starting with the ‘Housewives’ club (or residency). What goes on in regards to a typical club night with you The Housewives?

We focus on building up that very special Housewives vibe, and while building the set through the night making you dance, the sweat drips from the ceiling and you'll never wanna leave the dancefloor!

What’s the club vibe like in Sweden? What are some of the highs and lows in that respect?

The vibe is fantastic :)

Were there any funny incidents or crazy stories you can elaborate on during your gigs?

We were asked by one of the main newspapers in Sweden to try out pastries for their new web tv and put them in different music genres. The techno licorice was the best one! During our special club nights we throw coffee parties and give away cupcakes in the middle of the night.

Who are some of the support you played with this year?

We usually end up to be the main act our selves...

Now I read that you have a radio show which is the biggest electronic music show in Scandinavia. Tell us how this is different to say…..um djing at clubs? Do you expand more on your show in terms of bringing a broader range of dance music?

We host the electronic dance music radio show monthly on the Swedish National Radio and it is broadcast live but you can also hear it online for 30 days. First of all, it is lots of fun and it gives us the chance to show off the Housewives sound, but it also gives us the opportunity to play pieces that we might not get the chance to play in our dj sets.

Who has been some of the guests on your radio show? Give us some deets please!

We feature one interview in every show, and let our guests give us their personal views on a specific topic every time. Previous guests and topics have for example been love theme with Phonique, Ibiza theme with Axwell, business theme with Busy P, finding new music theme with Ellen Allien, label theme with Steve Bug, vocal theme with Stye of Eye, Paris theme with Nôze, humour theme with Sebastian Ingrosso and many more, the list is long..!

With a successful residency, a radio show that is big all over Scandinavia, I guess the next step is music production. Tell us about your up and coming single and EP with our friends over at Kinetika Music?

We've been producing music for a while now, the single Dirty Dancing is the first track we've finished together. The EP with the name What's cooking on the dance floor? includes the tracks Hot Stuff and Eat Me. These tracks are made from sounds we recorded making vegetable soup one day in Berlin. What's cooking on the dance floor? EP will be released later on this year.

Have you met any of the label mates from Kinetika or know any of their work?

No not yet, hope to meet them soon, they seem very cool!

Your single Dirty Dancing I must say is a fabulous and strangely uplifting. Tell about this single in regards to the process of the final outcome?

We are happy to hear you like it! Dirty Dancing is a single that is both about, and for the dance floor, seen from a dj booth perspective.

With this single coming in November, will it also lead to a possible album in the near future?

We definitely have album plans, but we are now first focusing on releasing these tracks. More stuff is on the way...

As 2009 comes to a close, where do see the Housewives heading in regards to both Djing and music? Will you be doing a bit of touring outside of Sweden, working on more music, remixes…etc?

The next thing coming up is an exciting remix project, and a video production with a great director. On our agenda is also finishing new tracks and lots of more exciting stuff coming up in the future. Hopefully also a lot of touring to dance floors all over the world.

Is there anyway we could persuade a possible visit to New Zealand or Australia in your itinerary?

We are just waiting for the invite... hopefully see you soon!

If there was one part of the world that you would consider the best holiday resort, what would it be and why?

Some place warm and sunny close to the beach (sounds like New Zealand or Australia? ;) but also the Swedish country side (during summer!).

Any wise words to impart to our readers or young impressionable minds to end our fabulous interview?

Mega House, Filthy Beats and Dirty Dancing!

Thank you for talking to us at Nerdy Frames here in Auckland, New Zealand.
We wish you all the best.

Thank YOU!

Love, kisses and dirty dishes,

Housewives
