Frankmusik vs. Boysnoize- Straight out of the studio

Frankmusik Vs. Boys Noize-Straight out of the studio (320 Kbps)

A lovely little mash with Frankmusik and Boys Noize. Click and enjoy!

Here's a bio of Frankmusik:

Let us introduce you to the world of FRANKMUSIK, aka Vincent Frank. A 22-year old St Martins dropout with his music HQ in Croydon and gran as a stylist. A self-taught multi instrumentalist, producer, remixer, talented graphic designer, photographer, video director by default and future music impresario.

The Frankisum EP, released last autumn, was the first taste of his own brand of arcade pop on his label Apparent Records. Sounding like teenage dreams wrapped up in candy-floss, it was pure pop escapism in Technicolor.
It was the eccentric but likeably mainstream sound of a guy who spent his teens glued to latenight house shows on Kiss FM, spent his weekends in XSF Records in Soho, and was out at Heaven and Turnmills by the time he was 15, falling in love with electronic music and the artists demolishing its boundaries – Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, Busta Rhymes. It’s the sound of a guy who describes himself as a “huge sponge” – he inherited his gran’s lodger’s passion for drum ‘n’ bass and abstract late 90s hip hop, and his mum’s passion for Bowie.

Frankmusik’s album has a TBC tracklisting as Vincent continues to deliver new songs at an alarming rate, but it’s taking shape.. . Vince is blunt about what lies at the album’s core: “it’s about how I’ve fucked relationships up, and how relationships have fucked me up”.

Vincent grew up in New Addington, a large and not particularly floral estate just outside Croydon. Funds were limited when he was a kid but he found himself at boarding school under what seem like some rather suspicious circumstances. Vincent will only say that “my granddad hooked me up throughout my life. He was a Royal Engineer and he made sure I was looked after.”. He ended up on a foundation course at St Martin’s but his passion for music was all consuming, and the course was never completed. Then there was a brief spell as a part-time beatboxer, performing on stage with Rodney P and Scratch perverts.

As well as recording his own album for Apparent, Vincent is currently signing – and working with – a number of other artists you’ll be hearing lots more from over the next twelve months, spending what remaining free time he has remixing artists as diverse as Chromeo and Alphabeat in his unique signature style.

In 2008 Frankmusik will be a force to be reckoned with.

Announcements!

Hey good readers of Nerdy Frames here are a couple of exciting announcements to look forward to over the next couple of weeks.

First up we've secured another exclusive interview with Sisters of Transistors, the female quartet from Manchester, in which 808 state member Graham Massey is the ring master, head honcho, what have you! Thanks once again to Stacey from Bang on PR for making this possible.

Next week (or this week depending on our you look at it) our beloved music editor, Conan The Destroyhhher will be playing at the next Sohomo gig "Sohomo Vs. Cassius". So if you're a fan of Conan's ragtag of mashing top 40 re-edited and remixed pop with some underground German Electro....then park your arse in front 420 and shake your milkshake maker!

Hey.......do you love that irritating tune from Katy Perry? You know "I kissed a girl....and I liked it, her lips taste like cherry chapstick"...Yeah? Well we have an assortment of remixes from all types of producers and DJs from across the globe. Click here!

BTW for those who read our "flavor of skanks" entry from our newest member, Analman hardcore and were offended by the imagery.......Well too fricken bad! I know that there were some "Not Safe For Work" images on that entry, but unless you know of the program or have seen it on C4, then you know where we are coming from. Nerdy Frames does not promote porno or sexual acts on its blog......yeah we do talk about sex with helpful innuendos and sexual suggestions, but when it comes to offensive imagery, we slap our NF sticker on that shit, so you don't get caught by the bossman (or bosswoman). Except more macabre, gross and inhuman entries from Analman hardcore!

Stop being sissies and get de-sensitized!

And finally.....yes we will be at Kraftwerk. I was going to sell my turntable for the tickets to a friend of mines, but I need the deck more than he does...I hope he'll understand. Now if you were of a religious persuasion, you should know that going to Kraftwerk is like going to church in which all saints and sinners of the dancefloor will be in attendance. In fact it's known that Kraftwerk is said to be a must see band before you die, so with the impending Apocalypse rearing its ugly head becoming, you too would want to shelter yourselves into the Auckland Town Hall!

The tickets are around $79 to $110 dollars, and you can get them at THE EDGE on Thursday 2 October.

Well thats all the announcements for now.....keep reading Nerdy Frames!

Whatever it is you'll be able to watch all of the action on the new Annie Mac Presents online TV show at www.anniemacpresents.com.

Annie has teamed up with former MTV and CDUK producers Us3 productions for an initial run of 5 very special online TV shows, filmed predominantly at Birmingham, Manchester, London, Liverpool and Newcastle with additional footage from Annie herself on every step of the tour. You'll get to see all the fun of behind the scenes as well as the full boom of the gigs themselves.

"I'm currently priming myself with vitamins and sleep in preparation for the impending three months of madness of the Annie Mac presents tour 2008. I'm delighted with the line-ups. They have as always been hard work in the making and this year is bigger and better than ever with my favourite bands and DJ's side by side at my favourite club nights across the country. Annie Mac is someone who loves what she does with such a passion that it reflects in the way she has risen not only through the ranks at radio one but also in the international club scene as one of the most in demand djs around.

There's only a handful of talented female DJ's out there. There's only a small pool of genuine television presenters who truly believe in what they're presenting. And there are few female radio DJ's who have their audience in the palm of their hands who respect and listen to their guidance through what they play. Annie Mac is all of these and more.

Her flagship radio show is of course THE MASH UP on Friday nights on Radio 1. Taking to the airwaves after the legendary Pete Tong after he kicks off the station's 12 hours of dance music. She has also made her mark on teens with BBC Switch. Annie co-presents the weekly music TV show Sound on BBCTWO on Saturday afternoons and Switch on Radio 1 on Sunday nights with Nick Grimshaw.

This tour is always a highlight in the calendar for not only Annie's fans, but also the DJ's and artists that play. Annie is a very respected figure on the scene, and this is a gig that they all want to play.

'Annie's support of alternative dance music and showcasing fresh new talent has been second to none. The AMP shows (along with her Friday night Radio 1 show) offer a chance to experience the more exciting end of club culture as well as a sneak preview into it's future' Erol Alkan

"Being part of this tour make me feel part of a family. A family that make noise sound funky, a family where electro and hip hop are one. You can call this tour NANNY MAC PRESENTS! We are the kids of Annie, and if you wanna play with my mother, i'll send you my big brothers!"
BUSY P (Edbanger)

'i'm grateful to annie for asking me to play on her tour - looking at the lineup it's pretty much a who's who of dance music right now, so its very flattering to be involved!'
Zinc

"We're looking forward to catching up with Annie and having a hoot together. The Chibuku crowd is always up for a good time too, we keep meeting in random places, ski resorts, festivals, so it will be nice to make a night out of Liverpool."
Bruce, The Whip

"It really means a lot to be featured on the Annie Mac Presents tour. Annie was one of the first people to play some of my recent tracks before I even met her, just for the music. I support what she stands for and can't wait to rock these parties!"
A-Trak

"AMP is once again THE autumn/winter jump off. Can't wait to get involved. And those line ups - are you crazy!!!!"
Sinden

"With Annies sweet irish lilt, it didnt take her long to persuade me to sell my mother, remortgage my house and play at her party."
Shy FX

"I've been lucky enough to have both DJ-ed and raved on the Annie Mac Presents tour since 2005, the very first year. It's always a riot with some fantastic line ups featuring some of the most exciting and cutting edge DJ's and acts in dance music. For me it's a real opportunity to see and hear some of the new acts that we've been playing on the show and a chance to watch and learn from some of the very best in DJ talent. At each event I've been to there's just a really friendly atmosphere with both DJ's and crowds seeming happy to be there and excited to party. I'm really looking forward to the 2008 tour kicking off and sure that this will be the best yet!"
Rachel Barton (Radio 1, Lovebox)

"Annie got me on her tour because she knows I'm the best pasta cook in the DJ business. True story!" DJ Mehdi.

"Being on the road with Annie is like boosting the lo EQ on life"
Frankmusik

"Thank you for the opportunity to bless the stage, the speakers, and the mic. I can't wait to finally run along side Annie Mac. BIG UP!"
South Rakkas Crew

"Big respect to Annie Mac for putting together one hell of a tour with the finest and freshest names on the planet. It's great to be a part of it. Turn up the speakers coz there'll be plenty off BASS!"
Lee Mortimer

"I'm really excited to be part of the tour - Annie's always supported me and played my tunes and even picked me to do an essential mix, and it really means a lot when you're relatively unknown. All hail the Macster."
Tom Maddicott

Conan's Verdict:

This is fucking awesome without the O. I mean how can you go wrong with Graham Massey, he was in the legendary 808 State, a band that we hold a high regard for. The track is almost criminal and Gothic, the perfect delight of macabre and murder on the dancefloor.......I swear if I were to drop this sonic gem, bodies of fake tanned woman and men will be on the floor, while the rest of us in a zombied state will eat their flesh in rejoice.

If you haven't discovered S.O.T., then what the hell are you doing?

Lead track 'Trouble in Paradise – Variation on a Theme (UNKLE Remix)' is a remix of the original version 'Trouble in Paradise' featured on last years BMW TV advert and has had a huge amount of interest from the public, as well as being widely downloaded in the weeks since it's been shown.

The deliberate decision to make this release available on 12" was made in a bid to go back to UNKLE's roots (of dance music, pre-digital age) and to make 'Remix Stories' a collectible item for long standing fans. In their illustrious career, UNKLE have released an array of remixes on CD and download, so James Lavelle and company are here honouring their favourite format with some of the mixes they they've been proudest of over the last two albums.

Remixes come courtesy of legendary dance duo Layo and Bushwacka!, renowned house djs and remixers Innervisions, and one of today's most prolific producers Radio Slave.

SLAGSMALSKLUBBEN MIX of SPORTSDAY MEGAPHONE's “I THINK ITS LOVE”

SPORTSDAY MEGAPHONE

I THINK IT'S LOVE

(SINGLE RELEASED 22nd SEPTEMBER)

Sportsday Megaphone-"I THINK IT'S LOVE" **

With a sparkling arrangement of laptop disco, I Think It's Love is the new single from Sportsday Megaphone, released on Sunday Best on 22nd September.

A tale of shambling romance and naïve pick up techniques, I Think It's Love sees Sportsday Megaphone at his endearingly romantic best. In a bid to grab the attention of a future love, our hero chokes down a cigarette in a story told amid the bedroom construction of 'Daft Punk symphonia'.

SPORTSDAY MEGAPHONE (aka Hugh Frost) began life as an art project. At University in Brighton Hugh created a series of album artworks for imaginary bands, 'Sportsday' would prove to be the moniker that stuck. Married to a blend of scrappy bedroom studio pop, Sonic Youth guitar and a liking for a deep electro house groove, Hugh's CV now ranges from remixes of Malcolm Middleton, Envelopes and Operator Please, to video direction for Friendly Fires and The Maccabees, and even a stint as a graphic designer for American Apparel in Los Angeles.

WHAT THE PRESS ARE SAYING:

"More uplifting than the sun rising over a colony of sherbet-flavoured piñatas. One thing's for sure, he's certainly got our attention." – DAZED & CONFUSED

"A bedsit Morrissey who discovered Garageband en route to the local poetry meet." – NME

"Indie laptop-pop at its very best. We're hearing this one-man-band loud and clear." – MIXMAG

"This dinky, lovely bedroom pop, is indie at its very best" – THE GUARDIAN

"Shattering the peace with a flick of his laptop, Sportsday Megaphone unleashes a one man electro blizzard on the gathered masses." - CLASH

"The best gig of the weekend by a country mile." – DROWNED IN SOUND at Great Escape

The Heaths Of Thornton website launched

Frankmusik AKA 22-year-old Vincent Frank might be in the studio working on his debut album with Stuart Price AKA Jacques Lu Cont but the album format was never going to be elastic enough to fit in all his musical hyper-activity.

Let him present The Heaths of Thornton (www.theheathsofthornton.co.uk) Named after the insalubrious part of Croydon Vince calls home, the website is Vince's personal blog, where he'll debut lots of unheard material, demos, remixes, video footage, artwork, DJ mixes; 'everything that I have in my head' as he puts it.

Once you've signed up to be a member of the club, you will be able to download for free a series of EPs. The site counts down the days, hours and second to the next one. He'll be dipping into the hard-drive of the Apple G5 in his bedroom to post up his latest productions, studio outtakes, demos, or maybe one of his fidgit house reworkings of a classic Timbaland jam. Right now you can download his version of Omarion's 'Ice Box'. With a million ideas pin-balling around his musical mind expect more surprises with every EP.

Vince has remixed the likes of Telepathé and CSS lately. Sometimes he'll remix one of his myspace friend's tracks (in fact this is how the Telepathé remix originally came about). With Vince also lending his production and writing skills to a whole wave of new left-field pop stars like Little Boots, Tinchy Stryder and Sisley, there are sure to be a few collabos on the Heath too.

The Heath Of Thornton is also were Frankmusik's Secret Liaisons are announced. The Liaisons are get togethers all over London hosted by Frankmusik on the piano, where he is joined by friends from the Heaths Of Thornton (you can request a performance on the site). The secret Liaisons take place at random settings across the capital. The next one will be at Soho's underground burlesque bar, The Black Gardenia on August 6th. The secret Liaisons are only announced and promoted through The Heaths Of Thornton.

Frankmusik has also created a 45 minute soundtrack for the website (which of course is hidden for you to find) Other content could be Vince posting up fan art, portraits he gets with charming regularity, graphic artwork he's done for people to download or maybe a blog he's filmed on his phone about how to get a Daft Punk sound with 'Bit Crusher' software. Welcome to inner workings of Frankmusik's hyper-productive mind.

TOTAL 9

ALBUM RELEASED 18th AUGUST

It's hard to believe that this compilation remarks 15 endearing years of consonance and music from the Cologne based electronic salad bar known to our many endearing fans as KOMPAKT.

For those that are new to what we do here, KOMPAKT came together as a partnership between known techno musicians MICHAEL MAYER, WOLFGANG VOIGT (aka GAS, MIKE INK, M:I:5, etc), JUERGEN PAAPE, AND REINHARD VOIGT initially as a record shop that today boasts pretty much every service a musician could ever dream of…from our inhouse record labels KOMPAKT, K2, KOM EX / SPEICHER and KOMPAKT POP, record shop (digital and physical), distribution hub for over 50 exclusive world-wide labels, recording studios, booking/management agency and so much more, KOMPAKT strives to keep to it's DIY roots by putting music first. Something that we unanimously feel has been accomplished on this double platter of joyfulness called TOTAL 9….let's dive in.

MUJAVA :: 'Township Funk' :: Watch The Video

MUJAVA

'Township Funk'

Single released 15th September 2008

(This Is Music Ltd / Warp)

"Actually can't believe you're releasing this fucking record! This shit is amazing!"
TREVOR JACKSON

Sounding like DJ Gregory's marching band heading through the back alleys of Brazil's favelas, 'Township Funk' is the master work of one South African, Mujava - real name Elvis Maswanganyi, a twenty something hailing from a Pretorian township called Attredgeville.

DJ Mujava's formula on 'Township Funk' is simple. It's tough, dark, African dance music from the industrial city of Pretoria. It's perhaps the most infectious dance record you'll hear this year, echoing the early Warp sound of LFO or the Forgemasters in an uncanny way, almost 20 years on, across continents.

Mujava's break landed when taxi drivers, who act as independent grassroots music distributors in South Africa's urban townships, started punting CDs of the music they'd heard him play on community radio across Pretoria that they'd acquired from begging visits to his house.. Spreading his sound though their cab stereos, they started selling his music directly to their customers. His popularity grew and he was eventually signed to the well known Johnnesburg-based dance music label- Sheer Music. Up until now however, he's not released anything outside of South Africa.

In the UK Mujava was discovered by the good people at This Is Music Ltd, (home to Simian Mobile Disco, A-Trak, Frankmusik, Little Boots and current grindcore electro idol Fake Blood amongst others).

Drawn to its simplicity, strange familiarity and catchiness, they first heard the track trawling through Youtube, where so far the video for the track has had almost 60,000 views. You'll also hear Mujava on The Rapture's forthoming DJ Kicks compilation. Warp Records have signed the track outside of the UK and South Africa guaranteeing a heavy push worldwide.

Indeed, this beefy slice of post nu-rave kwaito funk would be equally at home on East London backrooms as it would be in the front room of a Pretorian shanty. Held together by an incessant wobbly synth line and backed up by the ever-present booty-shaking bass-line, this is instant hitting, maximum impact African techno. Ashley Beedle's 'AfrikanZ on MarZ' mix sprinkles a dose of big room magic on the original, beefing up the bass, adding jungle noises, crispening up the snares and bringing the dark pads to the fore, bringing the drama with them.

Early props have come from Erol Alkan, Hot Chip's Joe Goddard, Kiss FM's Sinden, and, most notably, Trevor Jackson- "Actually can't believe you're releasing this fucking record! It's amazing- been trying to get hold of a copy for over a year! and had to play a rip I managed to burn off Youtube. This shit is amazing! Congratulations for bringing this stuff to the unadulterated ears. I hope it's massive...it deserves to be."

Check the video for some seminal African booty-shaking cool!

The Futureheads - Dolby Anol remix - free mp3 now available

The Futureheads returned with almighty grace and poise and hammered home their status as one of this country's finest alt-punk-pop bands in recent memory.

Their third album 'This Is Not The World' was met with much praise for the band's sheer determination and ability to achieve such a comeback.

Sold out tours, a growing fan base and extensive festival offers all came flooding in and kept the Futureheads machine turning. It has no plans to stop here – next single is the excellent 'Walking Backwards' on August 4. Bearing one of the catchiest choruses on the album, it's the third in a long line of potential singles from the album.

To coincide with the release of 'Walking Backwards' on 4th August in the UK - The Futureheads are giving away a couple of remixes.

The first one is Radio Heart, remix by Dolby Anol - it's banging!
