Gus from the Bang Gang![Source: Biggie.co.nz]
By Conan the Destroyhhher
From what was told to be a stormy night in Auckland turned out to be one of the most memorable weekends of all time, thanks partly to the wonderful folks of Torque Promotions (and no we are not kissing ass here, they do good work if you gave them a chance).....
Yes I am Conan!

Despite the shitty weather hindering certain folks popping over to see the Bang Gang circus coming to town, the most die hard of fans (me and the Nerdy Frames included) braved the elements and the rather persistent telling of "the club is not open yet" line from the doorman, I managed to get in, branded myself with the many ink stamps from both door and coat check staff, and proceeded to enter for the best Nu rave cure to heal a troubled soul like meself.
Can you spot Conan in this photo? Now in all honesty, this was one small step for man, and one hell of a giant leap into mainstream fanfare upon entering Code for the first time.....It was somewhat dark at first, but was well illuminated with 2 separate seating areas glowing with complementary purple lighting. The toilets were well stocked and didn't look like utter shitholes than most club toilets I've used in the past.
I did however wish the Boys room looked as good as the Girls, as I got a bit of perv when the girl's room door was opened half slit, damm them bitches get all the good fittings and toiletries!!

See!!!...Ring Master and guy in chicken costume!Code was decked out in what appeared to be a "Circus" theme complete with ring leader, guys in costumes and even the odd punter going as far as dressing the part! Look at the wee little man here (I don't know his name, but I've seen him in every club website) going through all this trouble for this gig, that's commitment for you!

Are these chicks fans of the Bang Gang?...heheh you bet!
Can you spot Conan in this photo? Now if people know me by now, I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to turning up to certain gigs rather early, because for one it was my first time stepping into a club like Code....so it was in my best interest to feel the club out a little...and I loved it, I was feeling the flow in there!

Maya

Alright I'll now nail down how the first hour went in terms of who was playing.....First on the mound was Maya, who earlier I was told from a friend that she was good.....and my friend was speaking truth about her. She was amazing, which is rare to us because normally we hold little regard for female Deejays from Auckland...(Remember Miss Doodles?). Well from what I was listening to, it was alright, all good in the hood. I did complement her when she dropped
Mr. Ozio's "transsexual" track and some Daft Punk in there.
Plus extra compliments also to her for dropping some indie goodness in there with what I've dubbed the official anthem of Sohomo (because they play it all the time)
Salt n Pepper Vs. PJ Pooters "Push it" which I was so happy to hear on the night because its my all time favorite....however this version kinda sounded rather stripped, firstly not hearing the Salt n' Peper sample vocal...hmmmmm strange!
My only gripe I've got with her set was just the selections. I will commend her for playing some of my favorite indie slash Ed Banger-ish Frenchie gems, but I was not feeling the Beastie Boys "girls" that was in there. That and playing it back 2 back didn't help.
Along with that she played some tracks that had a build up, you know the ones that play on and all of a sudden it just goes all quiet for a couple of seconds and then it returns back into the tune....I know its nitpicking, but there were 2 instances which it did happen in her set that I just wasn't feeling. I for one wasn't sure if it was intentional, but I did wanted a bit of a non stop boogie....but that just me.
However besides those little things, I see great potential within Maya and I hope that she uses that sexy ear of hers to bring the noise the next time I come around.
At least she can mix which is more than I could say about most Females who DJ (Miss Doodles!)
I was thrown off guard when she played some new selections in there which seemed to blend in seamlessly without my noticing of it
Come on Maya I know you have it in ya, just need to bring it out with a big boom. And kudos for playing the warm up, I know how that feels (believe me)...and thanks for being nice as!
After her set (yes I stayed for the whole duration of her set) I went to have a bit of sitdown just to recuperate, (yes I do wear out rather easily) got me some bar tap water, while 2 stanks were lezzing out in front of me (you know they're doing for attention sake right?), and no I was not turned on......I hated lesbian porn then, and I hate lesbians now (fake ones, not real ones).

Daniel Farley
I was taken aback on 2 things. One was my friend that I constantly texted during the night was coming over to Code shortly, but failing to mention that she dyed her hair blonde....(I'm Sorry Meltron 88!) so it was hard to find her in the crowd and two, Daniel Farley was stepping up to the plate to play ball with his set.
Daniel was bringing his A-game and bring it he did......but before that, I saw Maya setting up another CDj unit for the visiting Aussies who were next.
She approached me and introduced herself, it was a good feeling to meet her for the first time and letting by-gones be by-gones with this Blog's history with Torque Promotions. Hey if you can't beat em....join em!
What was strange about this meeting was that she asked me if I wanted to request a tune. Normally I just let the Dj play whatever without uttering a thing about it, but I couldn't say no, so I said "Can you play some Kavinsky?", and this was all during Daniel Farley's set in which he drop some French gems such as
Tepr's "Miniut Jacuzzi" (DatA remix), the odd Fidget house here and there and eventually my request of
Kavinsky's ""Testarossa Autodrive" (SebastiAn remix) in which I proceeded to go ape-shit! Well done I say hehahahahah! Oh and I never left that spot......my arse was well parked in front of the DJ booth awaiting for you know who....
Left:Gus Da Hoodrat, Doom, and some Aucklander! Now with all this happening, I did see in the corner of my eye someone who looked vaguely familiar to the blog..and to my shock it was Gus Da Hoodrat.....I felt like a high school girl when I saw Gus. Now the next paragraph will probably weird you out, but here goes. I had somewhat of an impromptu chat with Gus by passing bits of paper I had in me pocket along with a sharpie pen scribbling the following:
Conan: "Are you the Bang Gang Deejays!?"
Gus: "Yes"
Conan: "I'm a Big fan of yours!"
Gus: (He gave a smile)
Peter from the Outlaw Deejays
Conan: "Hey do you know Peter from The Outlaw Deejays?"
Gus: "He taught me how to rave!"
Bearing in mind, this was the only form of communication I had on me, cause it was loud as fuck in the club, and I didn't want to yell my lungs out!
Ladies and Gentlemen.......let's finish this entry!
After Farley finished up with his set (and a ripper at that), it was time for the Bang Gang to play to us fanboys and fangirls. The floor was set and it was worth the wait and the $15 dollars that it cost for the ticket!
Left:Gus Da Hoodrat & DoomNow if you were expecting a set in similar vain to the LSD mix tape, chances of that happening were very slim as they play some fresh tunes for the awaiting mainstream audience of Code. These minstrels of Modular Recordings fame play the usual mash madness of Nu Rave, Techno, B-more, Electro and many other genres under the sun! Seeing for the first time in New Zealand was a treat, and their Djing techniques were a fanboy's wet dream.
The most amazing thing about the Bang Gang Deejays is the fact that their sets crammed so many selections, I swear I could've heard about 30 tunes within a span of 20 minutes!!! I'll put it down to precision cutting and beat mixing, oh and having a 3rd CDJ unit did help as well.
Now here is a little rough playlist as to what they played. This is in no particular order, so you'll have to bear grim it and bear it........and besides I was too busy going ape-shit berserk!
- Tiga-Louder than the bomb
- K.I.M.-B.I.T.T.Y
- A remix of The Who's "Bab O' Riley"
- A tease of Uffie's "ready to uff"
- Josh Wink-Higher State of Consciousness
- 2 unlimited's-"Get Ready For This"
- Bag Raiders-Fun Punch
- Missy Elliot/ Duke Dumont - We Run This
During their set there were a whole lot of fanboy's distracting the Bang Gang by TXTing their inane requests on their fucking cellphones for this and that, which got me pretty P'ed off because I was trying to enjoy myself knowing that these guys schedules will be full as always!
Hey fuckwits don't you know how to trust a DJ? I swear I wanted to knock their fucking blocks off, but hey this is why I stay sober at gigs so I can witness first hand stupidity of cunty Aucklander's who ruin it for the rest of us!!!!!.... and this is where I should point out that a person should know their limit when it comes to the matter of Alcohol or drugs!!!
Oh did I mention that there were idiot breakdancers? I swear, breakdancers should be banned from clubs because they have the tendency to hog the floor with their shitacular display of 80s dancing, plus those moves (such as the windmill) could seriously injure someone............you're not going to get pussy that way okay!!!!!
Despite all that, I throughly enjoy the set
(which clocked in at 3 hours in which I stood for without water!) and I hope for their return sometime in the near future, if not sooner, because with the spate of Australian Djs entering our country and playing utter shit-house and cheese (check the cheese head pict down below for proof), The Bang Gang are something great to look forward to........oh and we lost the Rugby game to the Aussies that same night!
HEY PROMOTERS....
LESS OF THIS......

AND MORE OF
THIS!
(Oh to the dumb muscle that wanted me to return the mask back........it's only $2 shit for brains!)
