Explaining...The Slow Down Disco mix

I was feeling a little bored, so I decided to do a entry about a mixtape that I've just finished for Night Visions internet radio for my good homie Trakman (Yes I got your name right Trakman!). Basically its a selection of tunes from my library of MP3s which haven't been played on my radio show on Fleet FM for along time now, but the catch is that I've slowed the tempo down just a touch. Forgive the middling start of the mix which was not intentional but I will admit to when one gets over one head......not everyone is a know it all!


By default I tend to ask for things to be faster, harder, more dirtier and smelly even, but with this mix, its invokes emotion and traveling through ones mind....or it could be a blog entry disguise as a mix tape.....who knows

I will be doing 3 of these mixes for Night Visions radio, and I might do more under another title. Its still a working Idea at the moment, but I hope you people will enjoy it

A massive loping groove on this crazily overlooked B-side to All My Friends.

There are so many wonderful things about this record, not least James Murphy's funk-inspired Tourette's during the 2 minute drum solo. "Good god!"

11. Crockett's Theme – Jan Hammer
Block out the mental pictures it conjures and immerse yourself in this languorous synth workout.

12. The Jag – The Micronauts
Take the elements of a mid-nineties Italo-house scream up - a 4/4 kick drum and diva vocal - and s-l-o-w it down to make a grinding, rushing electro monster. Total drug music.

13. Hot Like We – Ce'cile
We'd been after this tune for ages when we finally emailed Ce'cile's website. Two copies arrived in the post direct from Delicious Vinyl by order of the Bad Gyal herself. Big Up Ce'cile! Typically deadly electro-dancehall production from South Rakkas Crew.

14. Une Bande De Mec Sampas – TTC
Modeselektor man the buttons for this dayglo Euro-crunker vocalled by the French rap mentals.

15. Time After Time (808 mix) – Cyndi Lauper
We're 1000% sure this isn't La Lauper, but the vocal rides the beats beautifully.

16. Revox (Justin Martin remix) – Tim Green
The A-side is no slouch, but it's Martin's sublime remix that makes this one of the 12"s of the year.

17. Don't Hide It – Alexkid
A you-done-me-wrong castration anthem sitting atop a bubbling acid line that breaks into a full on 303 assault. We've been waiting to use this since hearing it on Weatherall's Fabric mix.

18. Bahia – Italoboyz
John Coltrane's original gets looped to fuck complete with a wrong-footing tempo shift half way through.

19. The Book (Hardback dub) – Salt City Orchestra
One of our favourite tunes since it came out in 1994, this was the first – and best - record to come out on Miles Holloway and Elliot Eastwick's Paper Recordings. The dub is classic NY wild pitch with a Mancunian sense of humour. Beautiful outro, too.

Buffet Libre presents...REWINDed

The lovely folks at Buffet Libre over in Spain have released a brand new mixtape following their success of their wonderful covers project "Rewind" in which they got many of their musician friends to help out.

Our favorite artist, Lady Citizen gave us 2 exclusive tracks to give-away, and let me say these tracks are killer!


We profiled Lady Citizen awhile back, and we share some common interest with him, such as our love for Japanese producer Towa Tei (check his myspace for proof)


Lady Citizen makes music for a multitude of genres, calling his concept "machine soul" where he mixes electro shoegaze beats" & "electro based next level Hip hop, Breaks & Jazz".The sound incorporates a lot of different music styles (Rock, Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Techno, Jazz etc).

The term "American Dream" was first used by James Truslow Adams in his 1931 novel, "The Epic of America. Truslow wrote of "that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone", a land of "opportunity for each according to ability or achievement."


This was "not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature…" that , "of which they are innately capable…recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position."



Okkkkay but here we define The American Dream Team as a bunch of teamsters who make the most fucking awesome-ish tracks for the down n' dirty!.....oh and they're from America!


The guys of TADT were found on almost every blog......okay 2 so far in my re-collection, but we help ourselves (as you do) and looted their dope tracks, and were throughly impressed within the first listens!

DJ Salkz April Nu Rave/Electronica Promo Mix

In case you're wondering how New Zealand fares in terms of meeting our indie, nu wave, French touch quota....well this mix should answer all of that for you!


Auckland's own DJ Salkz gives us this wonderful mix which would pretty much shut my mouth with my ongoing arguments about Auckland's lack of Nu Nu dance genres. I mean sure there is nothing wrong with the odd house tune, but come on, commercial like a muthafucker!


I throughly enjoyed this mix because it has elements of dance music that I really do love.....its like he read my mind or read my playlist for that matter...either way I love it, and you should too!



DJ Salkz along with the rest of gang do their thing at Seba with their very own "Explicit" club night!
